When we try to think and edit at the same time, creativity stalls. Separating diverge (produce options) from converge (choose) frees the brain from early judgment and speeds up the start. First we widen the lens; then we refine.

Guided Practice (10 minutes)

“10×10 Sprint”

Step A — Prep (60 s)

  • Topic: pick 1 concrete question (e.g., “How do I improve onboarding in January?”).

  • Rule: no editing. Short phrases, bullets only.

Step B — Diverge (7 min)

  • Write 10 ideas in 7 minutes (one per line). Anything goes: simple, wild, lean, premium.

  • Stuck? Switch the verb (automate, simplify, delegate, bundle, remove, prototype).

Step C — Converge (2 min)
Filter with 3 criteria (mark ✓):

  1. Impact (moves the needle in 2–4 weeks)

  2. Effort (low/medium)

  3. Clarity of first step (obvious in 60 s)

Keep 1 idea ✓✓✓ or 2 ideas ✓✓.

Step D — Launch (1 min)

  • Define the first physical step (one verb-led line).

  • Open the file/board full screen and execute 2 minutes.
